KEEPIN' THE MUSIC ALIVE - MARK GUERRERO IN CONCERT

Mark Guerrero in concert at his alma mater, Cal State Los Angeles!  CSULA State Playhouse, December 7, 2013, 7:30 p.m. Mark will perform an acoustic set of his music, some of which will be backed vocally by Ernie Hernandez and the legendary Geree Gonzalez, and an electric set, backed by a five-piece band consisting of Ron Reyes (guitar), Jimi Seville (keyboard), Louis Ruiz (bass), Manny Lizardo (drums), and Marco Palos (sax).  The electric set will feature Mark's music, but also three of his father's (Lalo Guerrero) songs, "Los Chucos Suaves," "Muy Sabroso Blues," and "Tin Marin de do Pingue."  Some of Mark's songs he'll perform during the electric set include "On the Boulevard," "I'm Brown," "The Streets of East L.A.," and "Zoot Suit."  He will also perform "Get Your Baby," an instrumental he recorded with his teenage band Mark & the Escorts in the '60s.  "Get You Baby" has became an "Eastside Sound" and garage rock classic, appearing on at least six compilation albums.  THE CONCERT IS FREE THE PUBLIC!  The concert is one of the events surrounding the exhibit, "American Sabor- Latinos In U.S. Popular Music," which is now in the Fine Arts Gallery located in the Fine Arts building on the campus of Cal State L.A.  The exhibit will run through February 9, 2014.  Cal State L.A. is located at 5151 State University Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90032, phone: (323) 343-3000.  The campus is just North of the 10 freeway where it crosses the 710 freeway.

The 4th annual Chicano Soul Legends in concert takes place this Saturday night, December 7th, 2013. The venue has moved from the Gibson over to the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA.
